Grants of up to $1,000 to USA nonprofit educational institutions to purchase materials in support of Japanese-language programs. Applicants must notify the funding source of their intent to apply. Funding is intended to be used for teaching materials such as dictionaries, textbooks, audio-video materials, digital learning software, and teachers’ reference books.

Funding may be also be used for cultural items such as calligraphy sets and origami papers.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Japan Foundation, Los Angeles awards grants in support of Japanese language at the pre-K-12 and post-secondary level throughout the United States.

The grant will not cover electronics/hardware (laptops, projectors, tablets, camcorders, digital cameras, etc.) or consumable stationery supplies (papers, pens, markers, etc.).

Pre-Application Information:

Application Deadlines: March 15, 2019, and September 15, 2019. Should the deadline fall on a weekend, it will be extended to the following Monday. Application materials must arrive (not just be postmarked) at JFLA on or before the respective deadlines.

Applicants must inform JFLA via email of intention to apply for the program.

This is a reimbursement grant. The applicant should not make any non-refundable purchase arrangements before receiving an official notice of grant approval.
