Grants to Idaho nonprofit organizations and government agencies for projects and programs related to historic trail preservation and education. Funding is intended for story interpretation and dissemination, public education, and other activities that help to preserve the segment of the Lewis and Clark Historic Trail that falls within the boundaries of Idaho. Collaborative efforts, and the assistance of scholars for projects involving interpretation, are highly encouraged.

The mission of the Governor’s Lewis and Clark Trail Committee is to protect the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail as part of Idaho’s heritage; to encourage appropriate maintenance of the Trail; to engender appreciation of Idaho history through education; and to promote economic stability through cultural tourism.

Grant funds have been used to make improvements to the Lewis and Clark Native Plant Garden at the Idaho Botanical Gardens in Boise; to the Idaho Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation for clean up along the Trail; to support interpretation and the Outdoor School at the Sacajawea Interpretive Center in Salmon; and to Salmon Valley Stewardship for rehabilitation of Discovery Hill in Salmon.
