Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Fellowships to USA, Canada, and International individuals to attend a multi-disciplinary conference centered around the sharing of innovative ideas. Fellows represent a broad range of fields, and may include, but are not limited to, entrepreneurs, scientists, human rights activities, NGO leaders, artists, inventors, and advocates. Fellows collaborate across disciplines to create positive change around the world.

Every year, through a rigorous open application process, TED selects a group of rising stars to be TED Fellows. Fellows are chosen based on remarkable achievement, their strength of character and on their innovative approach to solving the world’s tough problems. Fellows are invited to attend a TED conference, where they meet, exchange ideas and connect with the larger TED community. They also give their own TED Talk – an unprecedented opportunity to disseminate their unique ideas to the world.

Once selected, Fellows receive transformational support. Fellows participate in professional coaching and mentoring and work with a public relations expert dedicated to sharing their latest projects with the world. TED Fellows participate in an active online network and attend regional meet-ups and retreats for an explosion of conversation and ideas. All TED Fellows also have the opportunity to apply for a Senior Fellowship and grow their leadership in the Fellows community.

TED pays for round-trip economy airfare, ground transportation to and from the conference location and meals and shared accommodation on site. Before the conference starts, Fellows participate in a pre-conference where they meet the other Fellows, participate in skill-building workshops, attend talk rehearsals and more.

Number of Grants:

20 Fellows will be chosen to attend each TED Conference.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Once you are selected as a Fellow, TED will cover the costs of transportation to and from the TED conference, any visa you may need, accommodations and food while at the conference, and conference registration.

Term of Contract:

Once selected as a Fellow, you must be available to speak with the TED Fellows team via videoconference for approximately ten hours (over the course of approximately three months) prior to the TED conference.

The central requirement of the TED Fellowship is that you are available to attend the TED conference in person, for the entire time. In addition to the main five days of the TED conference, all Fellows must participate in a three-day pre-conference. This means you will be required to block off a total of eight consecutive days in your schedule.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants must be 18 years or older by the time they apply.

TED looks for different applicants than many other leadership-oriented programs. Instead of business people, professionals, policy wonks and government officials, the TED Fellows program focuses on doers, makers, inventors, advocates, filmmakers and photographers, musicians and artists, scientists, entrepreneurs, NGO heads, and human rights activists.

In addition to impressive accomplishment, fine character and a good heart are two very important traits looked for in TED Fellows. More than anything, this focus on character has defined the success of the TED Fellows program.

Because the TED Conferences are conducted in English, English proficiency is a requirement. This is to ensure every Fellow gets the most out of their experience. However, TED does not require applicants to be native English speakers.
