Awards to USA, Canada, and International individuals above the age of 18 to recognize and support innovative and ground-breaking projects that address major world challenges. Awards are intended to support projects taking place anywhere in the world. Candidates can apply in five areas: science and health, applied technology, exploration, cultural heritage, and the environment. Proposals must expand knowledge of the world, improve the quality of life on the planet, or contribute to the betterment of humankind.

The Rolex Awards identify and invest in exceptional people around the world who are carrying out pioneering projects. Rolex Laureates are of all nationalities and backgrounds. They are united by a talent for independent thinking and the capacity to embrace projects that require creativity and determination in the face of considerable odds.

From the start, the Rolex Awards were designed to fill a void in corporate philanthropy by supporting exceptional individuals around the world, pioneers who had no or little access to traditional funding and were responding to major challenges with original and innovative projects that advance human knowledge and well-being.

The Award has also stimulated new ways of thinking about common problems in areas as diverse as creating technologies that improved lives, saving endangered ecosystems, protecting the oceans, exploring new frontiers on the planet, or pioneering advances in science and health. In addition to demonstrating a spirit of enterprise and leadership, candidates must put forward projects or work plans that have a clear purpose, are original, and have the potential for significant impact.
